Avengers: Endgame Has Locked Its Movie Edit, Heres How The Russos Celebrated

This weekend marks the release of Captain Marvel, meaning that Brie Larsons Carol Danvers is understandably and rightly going to be getting a lot of attention. That said, it wont be too much longer of a wait for the movie following this 1990s-set origin story, as Avengers: Endgame arrives at the end of April. That said, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have officially crossed another item off their Endgame to-do list by locking in the movie edit, and they celebrated this by snacking on some sugary treats.

If youre wondering what it means for Avengers: Endgame to have its edit locked, it's that the Russos and their editing team are done assembling everything together. Theres still some work to be done before the movie is officially finished, namely the VFX crew putting the final touches on certain shots, but there wont be anymore scenes thrown in or taken out. Whats in Endgame currently is what moviegoers will see when its finally thrown up on the big screen, so in these remaining weeks, the other departments can go about perfecting the final product. Crossing such a milestone definitely warrants hitting up the sundae bar, as the Russos showed on Twitter, although Ill advocate for that being appropriate for any major achievement. I also appreciate that Whoppers were being offered, as theyre one of the underrated topping options.

One of the big questions thats been asked about Avengers: Endgame over the last year is how long it will be. Back in November, Joe Russo said that the running time stood at three hours, and then in late December, he said there was a high probability it would clock in around that same period since, as he later put it, theres a lot of real estate. Endgames runtime hasnt been officially confirmed yet by Marvel, but whatever it is, its now set in proverbial stone. Endgame is not only the final Phase 3 installment, but also the end of this iteration of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it began with 2008s Iron Man, so its safe to assume that it will cover a lot of ground to give fans a proper conclusion of sorts.

With less than two months to go until Avengers: Endgame, presumably more advertising will be shown. That said, so far only one trailer and a Super Bowl TV spot have been released, and they provided barely any plot details. If Marvel is wanting to keep this secrecy train going, thats going to make it hard to kick marketing to the next level, but considering how popular the MCU has grown over the last decade, its not like Marvel Studios has to worry about a low turnout for Endgame. Given how Avengers: Infinity War ended, you can be sure most, if not all the people who saw that movie will want to see how the conflict with Thanos is resolved.

Bill Skarsgard Promises A More Vicious Pennywise In IT Chapter Two

Clowns are scary. This is an empirical fact and anybody that disagrees is wrong. This is why Stephen King's novel It was so utterly terrifying and why the movie of the same name became one of the highest grossing horror movies ever made. However, if you thought that the forthcoming sequel would just be another installment of "scary clown theater" you'd be wrong.

Bill Skarsgard, who plays Pennywise the clown, says that his character in It Chapter Two is going to be even more terrifying the second time around.

Hes inflicted fear on his prey, and hes very focused on fear, but hes never experienced it himself. Now hes experienced something that he has been inflicting on others and theres a shift leading into the second movie. It fuels hatred and anger towards the kids, who will be adults in this one, so I think there might be an even more vicious Pennywise. Hes really going after it

At the end of It, the band of kids that had been terrorized by Pennywise are able to turn the tables on him and get the upper hand. They drive the monster away, but they don't actually destroy him. This is something that they don't actually realize until many years later when the same terrible things that were happening in their hometown when they were children begin to happen again.

Only this time, based on what Bill Skarsgard tells EW, it seems Pennywise is pissed. He doesn't just want to make the kids fear him, he has it out for them for what they did to him before. It's not shocking to think an embodiment of evil is capable of holding a grudge.

And of course, Pennywise has to become a bigger threat in It Chapter Two because it has to make sense that the creature that the group defeated as children is somehow still a threat to them as adults. You'd think if they could do it once, they could do it again.

In the original Stephen King novel, the story jumps back and forth between time periods, so you don't really know what happened to Pennywise the first time around when you're reading the book. The movie audience will be sitting down knowing the character was beaten once, which will likely require the sequel to take a slightly different tact in order to raise the tension.

IT was a massive success when it came out. That success led to the sequel being given the green light in the first place. With most of the team that made the first film returning, both in front and behind the camera, as well as the addition of new actors like Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, it seems It Chapter Two is looking to be another big success.

The movie theater offerings, for the most part, did not disappoint this past holiday weekend. Thanks to high-performing movies like Ralph Breaks the Internet and Creed II, this was one of the highest grossing Thanksgiving weekends in recent memory. However, amid all the positive buzz, you may have completely missed that fact that the new Robin Hood opened this weekend as well. The movie was dead on arrival, barely sending out a pulse to audiences. So, Hollywood, can we please finally admit that it's time to stop with the Robin Hood movies?

The latest version of the classic Robin Hood tale, creatively called Robin Hood, is a reimagined take for modern audiences. The film follows Robin (Taron Egerton), a wealthy nobleman who returns to England from fighting in the Crusades only to learn that the people live under the oppression (and taxes) of the king and his enforcer, the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ben Mendelsohn). With the help of Little John (Jamie Foxx), Robin forms a group of merry men to steal from the rich, give to the poor, and win the heart of Maid Marian (Eve Hewson).

Sound familiar? It should because that's the same plot that almost every Robin Hood movie ever made has followed. Any moviegoer or person on the street can probably lay out the basics of Robin Hood without thinking too much about it. Is it any surprise that people felt like they could afford to sit out another Robin Hood movie?

Robin Hood had a rough Thanksgiving, grossing $23.2 million worldwide on a budget of $100 million. It's still early in the game, but that's a steep climb just for the blockbuster to break even. This seems to indicate that people just weren't interested in a new version of Robin Hood, a story that has hit some real diminishing returns ever since its days in Golden Age Hollywood.

Robin Hood has a long history in Hollywood and foreign studios. The character has been adapted into no less than 50 films over the last century, and that's not even including the dozens of TV appearances of Robin Hood. It's the well that just keeps giving, and whole generations of families have grown up surrounded by various Robin Hood stories.

The first Robin Hood movie dates all the way back to 1908. Dubbed Robin Hood and His Merry Men, it was a silent film, and the first appearance of Robin Hood onscreen. Since then the character has appeared in some form or fashion at least 10 times a decade. The history of Robin Hood in film is actually quite fascinating, but whatever made those early projects catch on has long since dwindled.

For one thing, the myth of Robin Hood doesn't spark the imagination quite like it must have done in the early days of film. The story of Robin Hood is good, swashbuckling fun which appealed to an audience that was still new to movies on the big screen. However, you can only eat a giant cookie for so long before it starts to make you sick.

I will say, though, that the benefit of having all these different adaptations is that it forces filmmakers to get creative with the source material. There are Robin Hood films set in space, the future, and modern times. Some feature Marian as the lead or Robin Hood's daughter taking up the mantle. These movies cover a wide swath of genres like drama, fantasy, adventure, action, and comedy. Even the latest Robin Hood was packaged as an action-oriented blockbuster with a superhero slant.

But even the most significant deviations doesn't change the fact that this is still the same basic formula and people can guess what happens at the end of most Robin Hood films. When you can predict the basic plot points of any given movie before even seeing any footage, that's not a great sign.

That familiarity is a big reason there are so many Robin Hood movies in the first place. Robin Hood is public domain so that anyone can make a movie or TV series about him. So, that's free intellectual property that most everyone is familiar with, meaning there's less legwork for a studio to explain the character or plot. That's also why there are so many King Arthur, Peter Pan, and Dracula movies.

The new Robin Hood gets some brownie points for trying to be different. The Sheriff of Nottingham is revealed to be at the center of a convoluted conspiracy involving the Crusades, and a new sheriff takes over by the end. However, that still wasn't quite enough of a difference to make this attractive.

Despite a decades-long run in Hollywood, it doesn't bode well that only about six or seven of these films are memorable. Errol Flynn's The Adventures of Robin Hood from the thirties is said to be the best Robin Hood movie, but what does that say that no other movie about the same thing has been better in 100 years? (Costner fans, insert gripes here.)

Other memorable Robin Hood movies include Robin and Marian, a revisionist take starring Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn as older versions of the title characters; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner, which had bright spots but was ultimately the beginning of the descent for modern Robin Hood movies; Disney's animated Robin Hood with the fox that the internet has a crush on; and, of course, Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

It doesn't seem like Hollywood is quite ready to learn a lesson from the underperformance of the new Robin Hood. A few different projects are rumored to be in development. The Wachowski siblings are reportedly writing and directing a modern adaptation called Hood, while Disney is working on Nottingham and Hood, which is supposedly intended to be a new adventure film franchise in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean.

There was also at one point discussions from Sony about a Robin Hood cinematic universe, with characters getting their own spin-off films. That is such a colossally bad idea that it tells you how badly the studio was trying to get into the shared universe trend. People are really going to flock to the theaters to see Friar Tuck: Not So Merry, Man.

Ultimately, there's a reason that this story keeps being retold, and there will be more movies. I'm just saying, give people a break. The previous Robin Hood movie (also called Robin Hood) was in 2010, and even an eight-year gap wasn't enough space to get people to care. Can we go a full decade without a Robin Hood movie? THEN let's see how we feel about that Friar Tuck movie.

No, Blumhouse Isnt Already Planning Another Halloween Sequel

If there is one genre known for its reinvention and penchant for sequels, it's horror. The most famous franchises from the horror world always seem to come back, even if there are years or decades between each new installment. That's certainly the case with with John Carpenter's iconic Halloween, which is approaching its whopping eleventh film in the property. Blumhouse Productions is bringing the new Halloween to theaters, ignoring all of the previous sequels and their narrative implications. But could Blumhouse already be developing another Halloween to follow up this year's addition? The studio recently answered this question on Twitter, Tweeting out:

We don't have a plan, but I love your question.

This response, which has since been deleted by Blumhouse's official Twitter, seems to indicate that the studio is focusing on the current upcoming blockbuster before thinking about the future of the franchise. But since the response has been taken off of Twitter, one has to wonder what Blumhouse has up its sleeve.

Blumhouse deleted Tweet, which comes to us from Comic Book, will likely elicit a mixed reaction for the hardcore fans of the Halloween franchise. The studio's focus on the upcoming sequel is certainly refreshing, and proves how much focus is being put on Jason David Green's canon-defying addition. Blumhouse took a ton of risks with Halloween's story, including the drastically new version of Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode that we'll meet when the highly anticipated film arrives in theaters.

The above tweet's deletion could possibly tease Blumhouse's future with the Halloween franchise. While there might not currently be any plans to continue the property's story, it seems that Blumhouse doesn't want to say never. Taking the tweet down possibly opens up Halloween's future, ensuring the studio doesn't appear unreliable if plans change, and yet another movie gets green-lit.

Anticipation for Halloween has been steadily building since the project was announced, especially with Jamie Lee Curtis returning as OG scream queen Laurie Strode. Things got amped up to 100 when the first Halloween trailer arrived, revealing how truly terrifying Michael Myers will be once he finally returns to Haddonfield in October. The trailer also features the most badass version of Laurie Strode yet; one who has spent the past 40 years preparing for her attacker's eventual return to finish the job he began all those years ago. Reception for Halloween has been at a high, so the film ends up being as great as it looks, it would stand to reason for Blumhouse to possibly continue the story down the line.

Aside from Halloween, Blumhouse has been behind some of the most successful modern horror movies.
