How Jigsaw Sets Up Saw 9, According To The Directors

In the world of horror movies, nothing is ever truly dead. The genre is one that is notorious for never ending properties and new sequels, and the always gory Saw franchise is no exception. After a few years in hibernation, the Saw movies returned this past October with Jigsaw. While a critical failure, Jigsaw made an impressive $102.9 million at the box office. Given that success, another sequel is likely on the way. But does the most recent addition to the franchise set up future stories? Directors The Spierig Brothers seem to think so, and recently teased that some seeds were planted during Jigsaw the sets up new stories. Peter Spierig said,

There's a lot of things that go on in Jigsaw that we talked about where they could go in further movies, and so there's things with the characters and ideas that have the foundations of other things that could potentially come in the next couple of movies.

Well, this certainly seems positive. It looks like The Spierig Brothers truly believe that they'll be more Saw movies in the future, and it seems they know exactly where they could go. Now we just have to wait and see if a new movies gets green lit, and if the Brothers sign on to help another one of John Kramer's adventures.

Peter Spierig's comments to Screen Rant are sure to excite all the hardcore Saw fans out there. Despite its horrifying violence and being the "torture porn" subcategory of horror, the franchise has always managed to maintain a solid fanbase. But that doesn't mean that the fans aren't privy to the various missteps of the Saw movies, especially the property's habit of retconning storylines into existence.

Indeed, the Saw franchise's overall plot isn't exactly what its known for. Because the movies are constantly killing off its stars in disgusting ways, there are always new protagonists. The franchise has tried to combat its confusion timeline by showing flashbacks and recaps during important narrative moments, but most movie audiences don't retain anything other than Jigsaw's terrifying traps.

Peter Spierig wants to change that, and he's got plenty of ideas on how. While speaking to the ending of Jigsaw, he said:

You want to make the movie itself a complete experience for the audience, a satisfying experience in terms of the story, of feeling like there is a conclusion. But at the same time, there are some questions about the characters and their arcs and things like that where we haven't explained. And we certainly talked about it with the producers and the writer and even the actors -- where things potentially could go. It really becomes a question of does the audience want more? Are they keen to see these characters -- the characters who survive and even sometimes the characters who don't survive can end up in another Saw film, based on its history. There's always room for flashbacks and who knows what.

But if Jigsaw already has hints to what future films will contain, then perhaps the future of the Saw franchise will be a bit more focused on a narrative throughline than its predecessors. Jigsaw's ending revealed that Matt Passmore's Logan Nelson was Jigsaw's OG protegee, retconning the newcomer before the other characters like Lawrence Gordon, Amanda, and Detective Hoffman. Perhaps the next film will explore how Logan fit into the previous films' contents, while also showing the new terrifying game that he'll put new victims into.

Unfortunately, we'll just have to see what follow if and when a new Saw movie is eventually greenlit. Jigsaw is currently available on demand and for home purchase. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Why Jeff Goldblum Took His Shirt Off For That Famous Jurassic Park Scene

There are few movies quite as iconic as Jurassic Park. The 1993 Steven Spielberg classic is beloved by cinephiles, and everything from the score to the beautiful visual affects have remained mainstays in popular culture. But meme culture takes no prisoners, and Jeff Goldblum has gone viral in the past few years due to one specific shot of the film: when his character Dr. Ian Malcolm lounged with his shirt open after the first attack. This scene is peak Goldblum sexiness, and has even recently been made into a Funko Pop vinyl figure. Now Goldblum has revealed what inspired him to show some skin, and become the subject of countless jokes.

It's supposed to be Costa Rica, right? So things are hot and I'm sure I'm in some sort of fever. So all the logic is that we gotta get some of these wet clothes off immediately. As I remember, I don't think anybody fought me on that.

It looks like Ian Malcolm wasn't just trying to show off his glorious figure during that scene in Jurassic Park. Instead, it was a mixture of the island's natural heat, the downpour of rain, and his injuries that motivated Ian to bare some skin. Take that, all you meme creators.

Jeff Goldblum's comments to Yahoo give some context and motivation behind his choice to unbutton on the set of Jurassic Park, and his logic does make sense. At that point in the film Ian barely survived a run in with the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and knows that something has gone seriously wrong within the park. It would make sense for him to be a bit overheated in the Costa Rican heat, in addition to the adrenaline that is no doubt surging through his exposed Goldblum body.

It's actually surprising that Jeff Goldblum gave such a straight up answer when asked about that infamous Jurassic Park scene. Goldblum's staying power in the business has been largely associated with his trademark wit and personality, and he's usually someone that likes to get ahead of the joke. I'd have expected him to make a joke out of the sexy Ian Malcolm meme, but it turns out that it was a conscious acting choice.

Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm was a major character in the first Jurassic Park, and the only actors to return for its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The hardcore fandom is especially excited to see him reprise the role once again in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It's currently unclear how large his part will be, but Goldblum's inclusion in the trailer definitely got excitement drummed up.

Hollywood Studios' Toy Story Land, What We Know About The New Park Addition

Walt Disney World is getting ready to open up its next big expansion, dedicated to the world of Toy Story. While the new Toy Story Land won't be quite as big as when Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opens next year, it will certainly bring a lot more guests back to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Here's everything you'll need to know when the new area opens in just over a month.

First and foremost, you need to know when it opens, which will be June 30, 2018. The new land is part of Disney's Hollywood Studios and has been built on the west side of the park, adjacent, fittingly, to the existing Pixar Place region. That area will be going away as one of the changes that will be taking place is that the existing Toy Story attraction in the park, Toy Story Mania, will have a brand new entrance once Toy Story Land opens so the Pixar Place walkway will be redundant.

Toy Story Land takes up 11 acres of space and the entire thing is themed to feel like you've been shrunken down to the size of a toy and are wandering around the various playsets in Andy's backyard. As such, everything from the ride design to the concession stands will look like oversized objects. Woody's Lunchbox is one such quick service food location that is designed to look like an actual lunchbox, if you were only a few inches tall. The menu of Woody's Lunchbox certainly sounds like it was created by a kid as items like a smores french toast breakfast sandwich, and a raspberry tart, that resembles kid favorites Pop Tarts, will be available.

In addition to the existing attraction, which has guests firing pop guns at 3D targets for points, two brand new attractions will open. Alien Swirling Saucers (pictured above) has guests sit in cars pulled around in a circle by the little green aliens from Toy Story while trying to avoid "the claw" overhead. The second ride is the Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster, which is designed as a family-friendly coaster, meaning smaller kids will still be able to ride it and won't go quite as fast as the roller coasters in other Disney Parks.

In addition to the rides, numerous Toy Story characters will also be available to meet and greet. Woody, Buzz, Jesse and the Green Army Men will all be walking around Toy Story Land for guests to take pictures with. In addition, the animatronic Mr. Potato Head who was removed from Toy Story Mania when the ride was refurbished a couple years ago will be making his return. There will also be an all-new animatronic of the penguin Wheezy outside of Slinky Dog Dash.

Toy Story is one of many Disney properties that seems to resonate with many people in a very special way. The new land is sure to be a special place for those with a special place in their heart for these characters and the world that the movies create. You'll be able to visit Andy's backyard in June.
