Seth Rogen Has A Hard Time Doing Press For Bad Movies

No matter how accomplished an actor is, not every one of their projects is going to strike a chord in audiences the same way as the ones their most famous for. Seth Rogen may have had built a name for himself during his over 20 years starring and making movies, but its an especially tough road when one doesnt turn out how hed wished it would. Heres why per his words:

When I like it and am proud of it, I am definitely more relaxed. It's awkward to promote a movie that you yourself would not be that excited to go see. I remember You, Me and Dupree was the first time I had to do that, and that movie's fine, I just didn't love it. It honestly was not a movie I would have gone out to go see.

Yikes! The actor brings up an understandable point. Few industries require those involved to go out and promote all their work ,and it can be unpleasant to gush about a movie if you are not happy with. While most actors might find it easy to simply fake their enthusiasm about a bad movie (maybe pretend theyre doing a character who liked the movie?), Rogen told GQ it really takes a toll on him. He continued with these words:

I actually remember standing in my fucking closet in my apartment on Hayworth, doing a radio interview, being like, Yeah, go see it, it's great, and being like, Ugh. Never again do I want to have to tell people to go see a movie that I myself actually wouldn't see. It's hard enough to promote a movie. When you're also morally corrupting yourself, it's a real bummer.

Ultimately, it looks like something positive came out of Rogens discomfort doing press for the movies hes made. Namely, it made him only want to do projects he could be proud of. You, Me and Dupree may have been a bummer for the actor (which was directed by the Russo Brothers you know those guys behind a little indie movie called Avengers: Endgame) but it pushed him to be more involved in his projects.

One year after that film, Seth Rogen made it big with his breakout hit Knocked Up, which he also was an executive producer on. That movie is still his biggest success, and was the start of Rogen being a regular producer on his movies (some of which he wrote as well) including Pineapple Express, 50/50, This is the End, Neighbors, The Interview and The Night Before.

Seth Rogen clearly loves being a part of the development process of a film, and having a say in the way its marketed. With the exception of a few movies, Rogen told GQ he gets uncomfortable about being in movies he is solely the actor in. This year he starred and produced in Long Shot, is producer on upcoming comedy Good Boys and is voicing the role of Pumbaa in The Lion King.

Way to pave your own success in the business. Seth Rogen may be high all the time (he said it, not me) but he can look back on a majority of his career feeling proud of what hes accomplished and walk into press tours relaxed because of these experiences.

We May Get Multiple The Walking Dead Movies Over The Next Few Years

AMC's The Walking Dead is entering its ninth season next month and the spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead is about to finish its fourth, but if you think that means that the hugely popular zombie series is tapped out, think again. The Walking Dead is the crown jewel of AMC Network's properties, and as such it wants to keep the zombie and money trains rolling for years to come. One way that the company intends to keep the zombies alive is by producing multiple new movies based on the property over the next few years.

AMC Networks Inc. sees The Walking Dead as having the potential to continue on as a many-tentacled franchise, like Star Wars or Star Trek. To do that, AMC is planning on producing multiple new movies and TV shows based on Robert Kirkman's graphic novels to keep the property going and making money for another decade. The plan, which is still being worked out, is to make several movies for either a TV network or a streaming service, with the hope being that they could then spin those movies off into new series, acting as backdoor pilots essentially. According to Bloomberg, AMC has had talks with multiple large media companies to help finance the projects, which all together could cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

Former showrunner of The Walking Dead, Scott Gimple, was named Chief Content Officer for the two current AMC shows, and he is overseeing the development of these extensions of the franchise. Beyond the zombie through-line and drawing from the graphic novels, it is not clear what these movies and spinoff series would be about, but it was mentioned that one series (and presumably the movie that launches it) would be set in another country overseas.

The Walking Dead is AMC's most important show, not only because of its popularity, but because unlike beloved shows Mad Men and Breaking Bad, AMC actually owns the series and thus doesn't have to share any revenue. So it makes sense that AMC wants to keep that gravy train, and those ad dollars rolling. Even though the flagship show, The Walking Dead, has declined in viewership in recent years, from a high of 19 million nightly viewers in 2015 to 11 million for season eight, it is still one of the most watched shows on TV.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If these movies are made with TV instead of theatrical distribution in mind, I've got to think they will get more shine on a streaming service than the AMC cable channel. On a streaming service they won't be interrupted by commercials or be hemmed in by a TV rating. Creatively it should also be interesting because if these movies are acting as backdoor pilots, there is a question of whether they will be narratively satisfying when the intent is really to sell you on finding out more in a TV series. I'm also curious if the declining interest in The Walking Dead show has to do with that show's creative decline or if it extends outward to any zombie property adjacent to it. Zombies are merely a device, but will The Walking Dead brand be a blessing or a curse by the time these movies reanimate?

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Will Feature Yoda, Other Surprising Returning Personalities

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge promises to open up a new corner of the Star Wars universe. It creates an outpost on a planet at the edge of wild space where guests will be able to interact with new characters, eat new food, and experience all new attractions. However, it wouldn't be Star Wars if the new land didn't also include those elements of the franchise that we're familiar with. At the recent Star Wars Celebration it was revealed that several classic characters will appear in the new land, including Jedi Master Yoda.

Of course, since the time period for the new Galaxy's Edge land is set in the era of the new trilogy, don't expect to actually see Yoda anyplace in the new land, except possibly as merchandise. Yoda has been long dead by the point in which this part of the story is taking place. However Chris Beatty, the Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering did reveal that Yoda would be heard someplace in the new land, and that Yoda's voice was being provided by Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda throughout all of the films.

Exactly how the voice would be heard wasn't revealed. It could be part of one of the E-ticket attractions inside the new land, though neither of them strikes me as particularly Jedi enough to make Yoda make sense there. Perhaps Yoda will help guide you as you build your own custom lightsaber, which will be something you'll be able to schedule for yourself in one of the Black Spire Outpost shops.

However, Yoda isn't the only classic voice who will be returning for Galaxy's Edge. Fans of the original Star Tours will remember the pilot, named R3x, who was voiced by Paul Reubens. While the current version of the attraction doesn't have R3x flying, Galaxy's Edge will have the character back, as a DJ at Oga's Cantina. Margaret Kerrison, Story Editor at Walt Disney Imagineering says the new R3x is going to be a lot of fun...

We worked with so many incredible voice-over actors. One of the ones that we definitely wanted to bring back was Paul Reubens. We were super excited to bring him back and nobody was more excited than Paul. He was really great to work with. He really, really was. He brought in a lot of inspiration and new lines for us. Lets just say you will be thoroughly entertained in Ogas Cantina.

Reubens apparently recorded a lot of new dialogue for his new role, where he'll be playing a lot of brand new music written specifically for the land. Some of that music is being attributed to the band Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, which is the group more widely known as the "Cantina Band" from Star Wars: A New Hope. Take a listen to some of it below.

One more classic Star Wars character who will be seen at Black Spire Outpost is the alien Nien Nunb. First seen as Lando Calrissian's co-pilot during the attack on the second Death Star in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Nien Nunb was seen as an X-Wing pilot in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he's also a background character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi who survives until the evacuation on Crait.

Nien Nunb will also appear in Galaxy's Edge in some capacity, and he will be voiced by the same man who gave him a voice back in Return of the Jedi, even though, according to Galaxy's Edge project lead Scott Trowbridge, making that happen was a little bit tougher this time around...

I love this story because Nien Nunb, when he was voiced in his original appearance, was voiced by a young man who was a student in the bay area at the time. Actually, was from Kenya. He spoke a unique dialect and had a unique sounding voice. But then, time passed and the gentleman, whose name is Kipsang, went back to Africa. We kind of lost track of him. But when we decided we were going to bring Nien Nunb back for Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, we actually went to Kenya, tracked him down, to record the original voice actor for Nien Nunb to play in Star Wars: Galaxys Edge because thats the kind of thing you want us to do.

All of these characters get added to the list of Star Wars characters we already knew would be appearing. All of the main heroes and villains of the current trilogy will also appear on Batuu. We'll see Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and even Kylo Ren as part of the Rise of the Resistance attraction. Fans of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series will meet an incredibly life like animatronic of Hondo Ohnaka

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will also see new music written for it created by John Williams, the man who has written nearly every note of music for the galaxy far, far away. It won't simply be ambient music throughout the land, as that would potentially break the illusion that you actually standing on an alien world. I'm sure, however, that Disneyland and Walt Disney World have found plenty of other ways to include the music.

Whatever your level of love for Star Wars, there's going to be so much going on in Galaxy's Edge that you're going to find something that strikes a chord. Disney never gives the entire game away and with all this announced only slightly over a month before the new land opens, there's almost certainly more to see and hear that we don't know about yet.

We'll find out when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens at Disneyland on May 31 and at Walt Disney World August 29. If you want to guarantee yourself access to the new land, you'll need to book a Disneyland Resort hotel stay during the land's first three weeks, as that will get you a no-cost reservation to enter Black Spire Outpost.
