Despite a whole lot of villainy, Tom Hiddleston's Loki has been a fan favorite character ever since he debuted in 2011's Thor. Sadly, though, his on-screen run may soon be coming to an end. It has been heavily rumored and predicted that the God of Mischief will die in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War... which understandably has his devotees a bit down. Thankfully, we now have a reassuring message from Hiddleston to hopefully give you some peace:
It's important to mention now that Loki is a notorious liar, and can't really be trusted in any circumstance...but does it not still make you feel better to hear Tom Hiddleston say the words?
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Hiddleston this past weekend during the Los Angeles junket for The Avengers: Infinity War. We had a great chat about Loki's relationship with Thanos -- which you'll be able to read about later this week here on CinemaBlend -- but our chat concluded with this calming statement. I asked if he would look into the camera and tell his fans everything would be alright, and he was kind enough of oblige with what you see above.
At this stage, some of you may be asking, "Why do people think Loki is in trouble?" Well, the answer to that question rests in Loki's personal history with Thanos. The two extraterrestrial threats first started working together shortly before the events depicted in The Avengers, as Thanos entrusted Loki with the Mind Stone so that he could invade Earth and steal the Space Stone (a.k.a. The Tesseract). Thanks to Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Loki's plans were thwarted, as he not only failed to get the new stone for Thanos, but he also lost the one he had. Presumably the events in Avengers: Infinity War will depict the God of Mischief's first interaction with the Mad Titan since then, and it's hard to imagine the latter party being super happy with the former.
As depicted in the trailers for Infinity War, Loki will have a bargaining chip, as he managed to steal the Space Stone from Odin's vault before Asgard was destroyed at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. That might not be enough to spare him Thanos' wrath, however.
For now, because secrecy surrounding Avengers: Infinity War has been super tight, we really don't know anything about Loki's true fate. Of course, answers will soon come to light. The blockbuster 10 years in the making is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, April 27th, and as mentioned above, be sure to be on the lookout for more from my interview with Tom Hiddleston!
All in all, Tom Hiddleston has appeared as the Asgardian trickster in a total of five MCU films - all three Thor movies, The Avengers, and Avengers: Infinity War. The actor is set to reprise his role in a limited series for brand new Disney+ streaming service.
