James Gunn Thanks Fans After Being Reinstated For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

It's a very exciting time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase Three has been on a roll, as every single installment in the massive franchise has been a critical and box office success. With Captain Marvel officially in theaters, anticipation for Avengers: Endgame is at an all-time high, as the massive blockbuster will arrive in a month. But today brought some unexpected (but still exciting) news: Disney has reinstated James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

James Gunn was fired by Disney in July, when offensive tweets from a decade resurfaced. While Gunn apologized for jokes that were in poor taste, he was removed from the Guardians franchise, and production for the Vol. 3 was put on indefinite hold. But now the Guardians of the Galaxy visionary will return to complete his trilogy as planned, and recently posted a note of thanks on Twitter. It read:

I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disneys decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all. I have been, and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love you all.

It seems James Gunn is truly grateful to be back behind the camera for the upcoming Guardians threequel. As such, he's taking the time to thank the fans, as well as the House of Mouse for welcoming him back to the fan favorite franchise. In short: we are Groot.

James Gunn's recent tweet of thanks is a truly full circle moment, since it was his social media account that caused massive controversy, and eventually led to his firing. But it seems that his apology and fan outcry did some good, given his reinstation as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

It was unclear if the threequel was ever going to be produced, as the task of finding someone to replace James Gunn seemed impossible. Gunn's point of view is very much apart of the bloodline of the franchise, as his taste of music, dance moves, and sense of humor were all incorporated into the first two movies. While some fans suggested who might take the job, many believed that there was only one person capable of finishing the trilogy: James Gunn himself.

The Guardians of the Galaxy cast hasn't commented on James Gunn returning to the franchise, but it seems only a matter of time. While they all penned a letter supporting Gunn in the wake of his departure, Dave Bautista was arguably his biggest defender. In fact, Bautista maintained he wouldn't appear as Drax unless (at the very least) Gunn's original draft for the Vol. 3 was used.

It's unclear when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will arrive in theaters, as its indicated that James Gunn will write and direct The Suicide Squad for DC before hopping back over to Marvel. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

A Funny DC Joke Almost Didn't Make Teen Titans Go! To The Movies

Warning: minor SPOILERS for Teen Titans Go! to the Movies are ahead!

Just like the Teen Titans Go! TV series, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies handles Robin, Stafire, Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg's adventures with a more humorous hand than the original animated Teen Titans series did. As a result, along with the usual gags and shenanigans associated with these characters on their TV show, this movie also pokes fun at the superhero genre, particularly DC Comics. One example of this takes place halfway through Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, as Robin walks by Batman and Superman fighting each other. The Caped Crusader and Man of Steel briefly cease their battle when they discover that both their mothers are named Martha, only to resume trading blows upon learning that their fathers don't share the same name. It's a fun swipe at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but according to co-director Aaron Horvath, Warner Bros did not care for the joke. Teen Titans Go! to the Movies' other director, Peter Rida Michail, added:

That one in particular was on the chopping block for months. Our executive producer Sam Register was fighting hard for that one, and right at the end of it they let us keep it.

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was overall a commercial success, it took a critical beating during its theatrical run (though the Ultimate Edition home release earned warmer reception), and one of the frequently teased elements has been Batman stopping short of killing Superman during their big fight after the Kryptonian asked the shadowy vigilante to "save Martha," a.k.a. Martha Kent. Whether you like that moment or not, it's been mocked numerous times in the years since Batman v Superman's release, and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies decided to get in on the action. Evidently Warner Bros wasn't keen on the Martha bit in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, but after it earned one of the biggest laughs at the test screenings, it was kept. As Horvath said to EW:

We're making a comedy movie, and if you get a laugh, it's like, do you want to be the guy who cuts laughs out of the movie?

Just like the Deadpool movies have been doing in an R-rated setting, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies is filled with fourth wall-breaking, from Green Lantern saying that people don't talk about his movie (for good reason) to the heroes thinking that Slade is actually Deadpool. Final Deadpool 2 Trailer Is Explosive And Hysterical, Watch It Now

The final trailer tends to be the most action-packed. The effects are finished. The jokes are finalized. The final bow is being placed on the whole gift, and the movie is heading to cinemas. That's the case with this last trailer for David Leitch's Deadpool 2, which is crammed with violence and thrills, as well as some killer self-referential punchlines. Watch it now!

Quick, rank your favorite jabs from the trailer! Mine has to be when Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) calls Cable (Josh Brolin) "One-Eyed Willy," a classic Goonies reference thrown back in Brolin's face. But because Deadpool is propping up 21st Century Fox's cinematic universe, I equally enjoyed the digs at Marvel -- when Brolin is called Thanos -- and that sweet swipe at DC for being so damn dark.

The final trailer for Deadpool 2 also makes it clear that Cable (Josh Brolin) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) are on opposite sides of a race to secure a mysterious kid (Julian Dennison), though it's for reasons we can't quite figure out yet. We know that Cable time travels back to our era from a ravaged future, so in classic Terminator fashion, Dennison's character, Russell, might hold the key to stopping whatever war Cable has been fighting in the future. It's also curious why Deadpool would even WANT to help this kid. He's pretty self-serving, so the fact that he wants to put a team together at all is surprising.

Ah yes, the team. This final trailer does confirm the names of the characters being played by the likes of Terry Crews (Bedlam), Lewis Tan (Shatterstar) and Rob Delaney. The comedian is poised to steal the show as he's playing Peter, a normal guy with no powers who just saw Deadpool's ad looking for teammates and signed on. The shot of him parachuting down into battle wearing his best Suburban Dad outfit made me laugh out loud.

Zachary Levi Shares New Buff Shazam Look, Henry Cavill In Full Support

A lot has been made of Zachary Levi's physique now that he has gotten himself in superhero shape for Shazam! While some are being critical of the actor, he's now received the endorsement of another on-screen hero. Levi posted another picture of himself to social media recently mid-workout, showing off that the guy has put in the work to be a hero on the big screen. Nearly every comment has been supportive, including some from other who play superheroes themselves. Check it out.

There are more comments on this Instagram image that we know what to do with, but buried among all the fans are a couple of other actors complementing Zachary Levi on his look. One is Arrow star Stephen Amell who simply posts an emoji with hears in its eyes, but another of the commentators is Levi's DC movie colleague, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, who thinks Levi looks great. As somebody who almost certainly goes through the same training regiment that Zachary Levi is currently undergoing, which Levi jokes about the complexity of in the post, Henry Cavill certainly understands the work that goes into it and has only words of support for the end result.

The question of Zachary Levi's actual physical condition has been one up for debate following some leaked set photos that many felt implied that Zachary Levi was wearing a padded suit rather than being actually muscled. There's really no question now that the actor has added some serious bulk. The muscles look real, though Levi seems to claim the tan is not, and is the result of an Instagram filter. Apparently, there are some special effects being used here after all.

Of course, what's even better than Henry Cavill's comment is Zachary Levi's response to the actor, when he tells the big screen Superman that the workout and the diet aren't that bad, the hard part is learning how to stare off into the middle distance for these pictures

Honestly, the nowhere stare has been the biggest challenge. But 2-3 hours a day of 'Nowhere Stare' practice has really paid off.

It does certainly seem that staring off into nowhere is a required aspect of all workout shots for some reason. Not only do you have to look like a brick wall, but it's required that you act like it's no big deal.

Zachary Levi's sense of humor will likely serve him well in Shazam! While the film will be another in a long line of superhero action films, it's premise is that a young boy gains the ability to transform into a superhero, a setup that is inherently humorous, and thus we expect Shazam! to be funnier than your average superhero movie, though likely more family-friendly than Deadpool.
